Wix to WordPress SEO Case Study: How a Denton Podiatry Practice Started Ranking for “Podiatrist Denton”

A MalachiSoft web design and SEO case study: how we moved a private podiatry practice in Denton, Texas from Wix to WordPress, rebuilt its design and site structure, and got it ranking in Google for the searches that bring in new patients.

Many local medical practices start on Wix. It’s quick to set up and easy to edit, and for a while that’s enough. But as a practice grows, the limits show: little control over site structure, schema and technical SEO, and a design that looks like everyone else’s template.

That was the situation for Denton Podiatry. This is the story of how we rebuilt the site on WordPress and set it up to compete in local search.

The Client: Denton Podiatry

Denton Podiatry is a private podiatry practice on Charlotte Street in Denton, TX, led by board-certified podiatrist Dr. David J. Barber, DPM. The practice treats heel pain and plantar fasciitis, bunions, ingrown toenails, nail fungus, nerve pain and diabetic wounds. It offers minimally invasive foot surgery when needed, and brings wound care to patients’ homes across Denton and Cooke County.

Patients come from Denton and the surrounding towns: Corinth, Highland Village, Lake Dallas, Sanger and Krum. The practice also offers clear self-pay pricing for patients without insurance, which sets it apart locally.

The website needed to reflect all of that, and to show up when people nearby search for a podiatrist.

The Challenge

The original Wix site worked as an online brochure, but it wasn’t built to rank. The main problems:

  • No real site structure. Services weren’t organized into dedicated, searchable pages, so Google had little to match against specific searches like “bunion treatment” or “diabetic wound care.”
  • No local targeting. The practice serves several towns, but the site gave Google no clear signal about which areas it covers.
  • Limited technical control. Schema markup, metadata and site architecture were hard to customize properly on Wix.
  • A template look. The design didn’t match the personal, team-oriented care the practice is known for.

What We Did

1. Migrated from Wix to WordPress

We moved the site to WordPress, which gives full control over code, structure and SEO. The migration was planned so existing content carried over.

2. Designed a custom site

We designed a new site from scratch, with a custom WordPress theme and plugins, around the practice’s strengths: a board-certified doctor, personalized care, accepted insurances, self-pay pricing and mobile wound care. Every page leads to the same clear actions: call the office or book an appointment.

3. Built a proper site architecture

This is where most of the SEO value comes from. Instead of a few general pages, we built a structure where every service and every area has its own page:

SectionPagesExamples
Services11 pagesHeel pain, plantar fasciitis, bunion treatment, bone spurs, nail fungus, ingrown nails, minimally invasive surgery, wound care, nerve pain, Botox, second opinions
Mobile wound care5 pagesDiabetic wounds and ulcers, venous and arterial ulcers, traumatic wounds, surgical wounds, chronic wounds
Locations5 pagesCorinth, Highland Village, Lake Dallas, Sanger, Krum
Patient resourcesSeveral pagesSelf-pay pricing, patient forms, about, contact
Blog12 postsSupporting articles

Each service page targets the specific condition patients search for. Each location page tells Google, and patients, that the practice serves that town. Internal links connect services, locations and the homepage so search engines understand how everything fits together.

4. Technical and on-page SEO

  • Unique titles and meta descriptions for every page, starting with the homepage target: “Denton Podiatrist & Foot Doctor.”
  • One clear H1 per page and a logical heading structure.
  • Local schema markup: MedicalClinic, the doctor as a Person, address, opening hours and the cities served, plus breadcrumbs.
  • Descriptive alt text on every image.
  • XML sitemaps, a clean robots.txt and Google Search Console set up to track performance.
  • Fast, clean page loads for patients on mobile.

The Results

Denton Podiatry now ranks in Google for the searches that matter most to a local practice, including:

  • podiatrist denton
  • podiatrist denton tx
  • podiatrist near me
  • denton podiatry
  • dr david barber
  • podiatrist diabetes specialist near me

Here’s why these terms matter:

  • The site appears for high-intent local searches. “Podiatrist denton,” “podiatrist denton tx” and “podiatrist near me” are exactly what people type when they need a foot doctor nearby.
  • Brand and doctor searches find the site. People searching for the practice or Dr. Barber by name are landing on the new website.
  • Specialist searches are starting to show up, like “podiatrist diabetes specialist near me,” which matches the practice’s wound care focus.

What’s Next

Ranking is the first step. The goal now is to move into the top positions and turn more searches into clicks and appointments. The next phase focuses on:

  • Google Business Profile optimization: matching categories and services to the new site, regular posts and photos, and a steady flow of patient reviews.
  • Improving the main “podiatrist Denton” pages with more local content and FAQs.
  • Local citations and links from directories and Denton-area organizations, with consistent name, address and phone details.
  • Richer location pages with local details and testimonials for each town served.

The Takeaway

A good-looking website isn’t enough for a local practice. It needs a structure Google can understand: a page for every service, a page for every area served, and the technical foundations that tell search engines exactly who you are and where you work.

Moving from Wix to WordPress gave Denton Podiatry that control. With a custom design and the right architecture, the site is now ranking for the searches that bring in new patients, and it has a solid base for the next phase of local SEO.
